The United States and Russia are set to convene in Saudi Arabia to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

US and Russian representatives are scheduled to convene in Saudi Arabia in the upcoming days to initiate discussions focused on resolving Moscow's nearly three-year conflict in Ukraine, according to a US legislator and a source knowledgeable about the arrangements.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, during his meeting with US Vice President JD Vance in Germany on Friday, stated that Ukraine was not included in the discussions held in Saudi Arabia and emphasized that Kyiv would refrain from engaging with Russia until it has consulted with its strategic partners.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, and White House Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff are set to visit Saudi Arabia, as reported by US Representative Michael McCaul to Reuters. The specific individuals they will engage with from Russia have not yet been disclosed.

During the Munich Security Conference, McCaul indicated that the purpose of these discussions is to facilitate a meeting involving US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with the goal of achieving peace and resolving the ongoing conflict.

A knowledgeable source has verified that discussions are set to take place in Saudi Arabia involving officials from the United States and Russia. The US State Department has not yet provided a response to a request for comment.

Since taking office on January 20, Trump has consistently promised to bring a swift resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. On Wednesday, he conducted separate phone calls with both Putin and Zelenskiy, raising concerns among Washington's European allies about their potential exclusion from any peace negotiations.

These concerns were largely validated on Saturday when Trump's envoy for Ukraine stated that Europe would not be included in the discussions, following Washington's distribution of a questionnaire to European capitals regarding their potential contributions to security guarantees for Kyiv.
